Academic Exploration

Discovering my most promising areas of study

Overview

The results below show my most promising areas of study based on my profile of preferences and aptitudes. The test is designed to identify areas I will both excel in and enjoy. However, it's certainly possible that some of these subjects may be skewed one way or the other in ways that make them less than a perfect fit.

It's important to know that these results are not intended to limit my scope of academic exploration in any way. Intelligent, motivated people can successfully study nearly any subject if they have a strong determination to do so. I'm encouraged to use this list as inspiration to explore areas I hadn't thought of or take a deeper look at subjects that may not have been my top choice.

I have a high level of curiosity about the workings of the universe and the natural world.

Practical

I like working with machines and technology and am more focused on the tangible outcomes of my work than on abstract goals or connections with other people.

I am confident in my abilities and happy to take on leadership roles.

Sociognomic

I have a strong interest in understanding people, individually and collectively.

Helping

Computer engineering
Software engineering
Information technology
System administration
Web development
Computer architecture

Computer science is a natural field to consider for me as a Logical person who loves solving problems and appreciates the beauty of an elegant algorithm.

I can satisfy my Inquiring trait by working in cutting-edge fields with opportunities to seek new advances in technology and explore the limits of current hardware and software.

And my Practical side will appreciate that results in this field are not simply theoretical. The code I write today could be in beta testing by tomorrow. Success does not depend on who I know or how I spin my work - it's all about results.

Because this has become such a well-paid profession and popular field of study, competition is fiercer than ever. Fortunately, my Confidence will help me push my limits and show what I can do.

2. Engineering

Mechanical engineering
Electrical engineering
Agricultural engineering

Traffic engineering
Chemical engineering
Metallurgy
Robotics and automation

Engineering is a natural field for me who values problem-solving, reasoning, and logic. My Practical side is attracted to the kinds of tangible tools and materials less common in more abstract fields of study. My Conventional traits allow me to stay focused on the less glamorous features of engineering coursework, double-checking calculations, and staying on top of the details that can make or break a project. Finally, my curiosity keeps me motivated to stay on top of the latest technology and to innovate new solutions and approaches.

I should know that I'm entering an extremely broad field. We tend to associate engineering with complex machines or huge projects like bridges and dams. But it's also possible to engineer the chemical properties of different substances or the microscopic nodes of an electrical power cell. I won't have to choose my specialty on day one, but I will eventually have to choose between areas that require considerably different skills and expertise.

3. Medicine and Health

My Inquiring desire for knowledge paired with the Helping trait gives me a powerful urge to assist others. This makes medicine and health natural fields of study. They will allow me to solve mysteries and diagnose problems that could be the difference between life and death.

Those with less Practical mindsets may be drawn to more theoretical fields. But I would probably prefer to see tangible results by working directly with patients or in a lab. Becoming a medical professional is one of the most demanding academic paths a person can pursue, but the Confident trait helps me stick with it and overcome obstacles that cause candidates to falter.

Whether I want to observe how cells are growing in a petri dish or how a heart is beating in someone's chest, I may be attracted to medicine and health because I enjoy hands-on opportunities to heal people and other living things.
