SAFe 5 Certification (Product Manager & Product Owner)
Scaled Agile

The Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) is the global reference framework for enterprise-scale agility. The SAFe 5 PO/PM certification validates the ability to drive product delivery within an Agile Release Train (ART), participate in PI Planning, and align development teams with the organization's strategic objectives. It covers the dual role of Product Owner (team level) and Product Manager (program level), with an end-to-end view of the value stream.
Scaled Agile, Inc. is the creator of the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), the global reference framework for enterprise agility. Founded in 2011 by Dean Leffingwell, Scaled Agile trains and certifies hundreds of thousands of professionals worldwide. SAFe is adopted by 70% of Fortune 100 companies. After obtaining the PSPO (Professional Scrum Product Owner) certification in July 2021, I quickly realized that the Scrum framework alone was not enough to manage multi-team complexity at Pichet. Groupe Pichet operated with multiple technical teams working on interconnected platforms (ESB, PIM, DAM, web portals). Coordinating these teams required a more structured framework than Scrum alone. SAFe provided the tools to orchestrate this complexity: PI Planning, Agile Release Trains, and portfolio management. This certification was the logical next step in my evolution from Technical Lead to Engineering Manager.
First Agile certification, focused on product management at the Scrum team level. Formalized the transition to a hybrid technical/product role.
Multi-project backlog management at Pichet. The need to coordinate multiple technical teams on integration projects revealed the limits of Scrum alone.
Acquired the SAFe framework to structure product management at enterprise scale: PI Planning, value streams, Agile Release Trains.
Applied SAFe principles to align technical decisions with strategic objectives. Managed the project portfolio with a program-level vision.
SAFe 5 PO/PM is part of a complementary certification trajectory covering product management at different scales.

Product management at enterprise scale (SAFe)
- Organized PI Planning sessions to coordinate deliveries between the ESB team (TIBCO), PIM team (Akeneo), and web portals team
- Established identified value streams for real estate integration flows: listings, new developments, property management
- Used WSJF to arbitrate between technical debt and new features across a portfolio of 7+ projects
- Coordinated cross-team dependencies during quarterly releases (ESB deployments, PIM/DAM synchronizations)
- Aligned technical objectives with Groupe Pichet's business strategy across business units (development, property management, new construction)
- Facilitated Inspect & Adapt sessions to identify continuous improvement areas at the program level
PI Planning
Organize and facilitate Program Increment Planning, align teams on quarterly objectives and identify cross-team dependencies.
Agile Release Train
Operate within an ART, coordinate Agile teams to deliver value in a synchronized and predictable manner.
Value Stream Management
Identify and optimize value streams, from business need to technical delivery, eliminating bottlenecks.
Scaled Product Vision
Define and communicate a coherent product vision at the program level, articulating team objectives with enterprise strategy.
Lean-Agile Mindset
Apply Lean principles (pull system, waste reduction, continuous improvement) in an enterprise context.
WSJF Prioritization
Use Weighted Shortest Job First to prioritize features based on business value, cost of delay, and job size.
Scrum excels at the team level. SAFe extends these principles to the enterprise scale. This dual certification (PSPO + SAFe PO/PM) covers the full spectrum of product management.
| Scrum | SAFe | |
|---|---|---|
| Scope | 1 team, 1 product | Multiple teams, program, portfolio |
| Planning | Sprint Planning (2 weeks) | PI Planning (8-12 weeks) |
| Coordination | Daily Scrum, Sprint Review | ART Sync, System Demo, Inspect & Adapt |
| Prioritization | Product Backlog ordering | WSJF, Lean Portfolio Management |
